Derick Kipngetich Koech

Clinical Trainer · POCUS

Nairobi, Kenya

Derick Koech is a lead radiographer and sonographer with an unusually wide imaging range for his years — general and vascular ultrasound, CT, MRI, and PET and SPECT nuclear medicine procedures — and a detail-oriented approach to image quality and patient safety.

At QualCare Africa

He teaches on the POCUS programme, bringing the perspective of someone who runs a department: not only how to acquire and interpret an image, but how to keep a machine working, how to run quality assurance, and how to build imaging into a facility's daily workflow.

Clinical practice

As Lead Radiographer and Sonographer at Better Living Hospital in Nairobi he oversees daily radiology operations, performs general and vascular ultrasound and general radiography, and runs routine machine maintenance, quality assurance and radiation monitoring. He also practises as a sonographer at Haven Hospital, Ruai, conducting comprehensive 2D ultrasound examinations and reporting.

Breadth

His term at Kenyatta University Teaching, Research and Referral Hospital covered diagnostic X-ray, mammography, ultrasound, CT, MRI, and PET and SPECT procedures, including preparing and administering radiopharmaceuticals and performing QC on MRI, CT and PET equipment. Earlier, at Jionee Mobile Diagnostic Services, he handled mobile diagnostic X-ray, ultrasound, MCU and HSG procedures.
